Movement Psychotherapy
Body-oriented approaches in psychotherapy are based on the assumption that body, mind and soul are inextricably linked. The aim of movement therapy is a better integration of body-mind-soul, i.e. mental, physical and emotional aspects. Its main tools are physical awareness and expressive movement.
Focusing on how we use our body and movement to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings will support you in developing your strengths and self-esteem. An increased awareness of how you relate to people will improve your non-verbal communication and listening skills, and help you reflect on your body-image, as well as gain back physical and emotional control.
Movement psychotherapy is widely used within creative arts therapy as a recommended psychological treatment option for psychosomatic symptoms, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addiction, self-harm, suicidal ideation, attachment disorders, burnout and trauma. This work is also useful for reducing stress, working through complex issues and taking difficult decisions.
My approach is psychodynamic, using body-mind integrated interventions, i.e. exploring the relationship as expressed verbally in language and non-verbally through movement.
No prior experience is required and you do not need to be fit as an athlete. We focus on awareness of simple movements, breathing, lying down, getting up, standing, sitting, walking, starting & stopping, holding & letting go.
Therapy is offered both short- and long-term.
